Ps 102:7-8a I did lie awake a few nights last week, like
a bird alone on a roof. My enemies, however, were only
sore muscles. A group of men in the church put a new roof on the home
of a single mom in need, and I had some discomfort in areas of my body I had
forgotten existed. I also had a moment of nearly falling off the roof
with nobody there to catch me. Maybe the tensing up of my muscles
the rest of the day is what led to the aches and pains.
By the way ----what is the big deal about being a bird alone on a roof? What would be wrong with that? The view would be great and no one would bother you. But, what fun is a wonderful view when seeing it alone? The best part about a fantastic view is sharing it with someone. The thrill of seeing something remarkable from an elevated perspective reaches its ultimate only when 2 or 3 can share in the experience. The fresh air and panoramic view from a rooftop, shooting a hole in one, making a 3-point shot on the basketball court, or sighting the biggest fish in the river are just stories unless there is fellowship in the midst of the memory being built. The joy of putting a new roof on the house of a friend in need was a special experience and a lasting memory because it was shared with other kingdom workers. It was a practical expression of God’s love, meeting a need, a random act of kindness worked out in a shoulder-to-shoulder experience of fellowship. The best part was the thrill of experiencing the presence of God as we sought to serve Him and bless the life of one of His children. So….embrace the wonderful shift by the Psalmist from 102:7-8 to verse 12, from the pits to an elevated perspective, from a flightless rooftop bird to the connection with a flock of God followers…… “But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.” Would you like to be on the reminder list?
